But the digital producers are making a name for themselves in international film circles and embarking on their first animated series.
As the movie industry dried up due to COVID-19, so too did the work with just a trickle of projects coming through to their film and design company Its Got Stealth (sic).
But it worked in their favour, giving them much-needed time for their love project to finally spawn.
"We started tinkering with the idea of Samurai Unicorn at the start of the year but we thought it would be something we did in the background," Turner said of the series that lovingly evokes the feel of a late-'90s video game.
"One of the big jobs we were gearing up for in March evaporated ... we thought 'when are we ever going to get the chance to take a proper swing at this?'
"It's been our primary focus for the remainder of the year."
The duo usually specialise in making title sequences (the credits at the beginning of a film) and already have a list of coveted credentials evolving from posting a sample of their work to Reddit in 2017.
What followed was a short film they worked on being nominated for an Oscar, plus award nominations at the SXSW Festival in 2019 and again 2020 - alongside Hollywood blockbusters Black Panther, Into the Spider-Verse and Deadpool 2.
They also won silver at last year's Australian Effects & Animation Festival Awards for an animated sequence created for the Serbian film, Dogs Die Alone.
Most of their income comes from motion graphics, music videos, animated explainers for corporate videos, and of course the credits at the beginning of films.
But with not a lot of work, yet quite a lot of time, the pair have been busy creating "Power Ranger-esque" characters and "retro-graphic styled" sets, similar to those seen in old PS1 games.
"I'm pretty sure over the next 10 years we're going to see a lot of people finding the fondness and charm from that era of video game graphics, just with how the nostalgia cycle works," Turner said.
"It'd be a dream to get it on Netflix."
Samurai Unicorn is set in a corrupt city ruled by "megacorporations", where a young detective Klo and her mysterious samurai guardian battle the growing plague of parasitic creatures that have invaded the lower levels of Sydney3.
Creating a digitally animated series (even if only three episodes of 24 minutes each) is quite a lengthy process.
Turner said they would dedicate much of the next 18 months to the passion project, which will begin as an eight-minute short film to be entered in various festivals.
