In fact, across the Greater Sydney area, that suburb is the fifth best at doing the right thing with water, with households using an average of 430 litres a day.
Despite Level One water restrictions being removed on Tuesday, Water Minister Melinda Pavey is hopeful Gerringong residents - and those elsewhere in the Illawarra - will continue the practices they've been following since February this year.
"While water restrictions will be lifted we are encouraging people to continue to practise their good water behaviour habits along the guidelines of the Level One water restrictions," Ms Pavey said.
The weekend heatwave showed how easily water usage could spike.
"The heatwave over the weekend meant 3.7 gigalitres of water was consumed on Friday and Saturday, the most consumed over two days for 2020, a timely reminder how quickly dam levels can change," Ms Pavey said.
The restrictions will be replaced with new Water Wise Guidelines, that will see an easing of what people can do around the home.
As of Tuesday, people can water lawns and gardens with drip irrigation systems or so-called "smart water systems" at any time.
Previously only one system could be used at a time and only between the hours of 5pm and 10am.
Also, new lawns and gardens can now be watered at any time for 28 days - up from the previous restriction of one week.
Sprinklers can also be used on lawns and gardens between 4pm and 10am.
Hoses must still be fitted with a trigger nozzle.
