Project manager Jim Thurstan said the team of volunteers at the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) will now pull the propeller off the number two engine and fit it with seals.
They will then torque and lock all three propeller retaining nuts.
Which means the flying replica of Australia's most famous aircraft is still on track to be back in the air in 2021.
The original Southern Cross was flown by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith almost a century ago.
Mr Thurstan said there are still some electrics to work on before testing and CASA approval can be granted.
