Ms Nicholson was one of the first to put up Christmas lights in Stubbs Road, Albion Park.
Some 20 years later pretty much every house in the road has followed suit.
In recent years Stubbs Road has become one of the most popular destinations for families keen to check out Christmas lights decorations, much to the pleasure of Ms Nicholson.
"It is so good seeing so many people walking by and just checking out all the wonderful Christmas lights," she said.
"I've always enjoyed putting up Christmas lights. It started with my parents.
"We moved to Albion Park the week before Christmas about 20 years ago. Although we weren't quite settled, I still put up the Christmas lights, and have every year since."
Luke Nicholson said he enjoyed helping his mum put up the lights each Christmas.
"It's a great time of the year. It's great seeing all the families, especially kids enjoying themselves. This year has been particularly tough so it's great to do something that brings so much joy to so many people," he said.
Fellow Stubbs Road resident Adrian Chilby also took great delight in decorating his house in Christmas lights.
Mr Chilby has been decorating his house with the help of his family since they moved in around 18 years ago - each year adding more and more to the collection.
"I probably started off with one strand of fairy lights on the roof and it's progressed from there," he said. "I've [now] got a whole garden shed out the back just for lights."
Although because of COVID restrictions, Mr Chilby had to take down a sleigh he built himself so passers by can jump in and get photos with.
Neighbour Wade Donnelly added it was great to see hundreds of people heading up and down the street from sunset to midnight, in the days leading up to Christmas.
"It really is a great time of the year. I've got my mates over and we are just having a great time."
