Thousands of Wollongong residents have listened to health authorities' advice to get tested on Wednesday, prompting the local health district to arrange more clinics.
Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District chief executive Margot Mains thanked residents for coming out to testing centres in "record numbers" after two Wollongong cases were confirmed on Wednesday.
This number of people needing to get tested has put pressure on existing clinic prompting the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District to bring in additional staff, bring staff back from leave and use staff from nearby local health districts.
People can get tested at 21 locations including the region's hospitals, private providers and GP respiratory clinics.
