Whether a government declares wearing a mask a mandatory or not is secondary really to being sensible enough to realise what the situation sometimes dictates is not necessarily what's legislated.
Public transport, whether it's mandated or not, is one of those areas where you know it might be best to mask up.
We can ride the case numbers each day as much as we want, but what won't change for the foreseeable future is we are living in a pandemic.
It is sensible to mask up in all forms of public transport whether it's mandated or not.

If a business or an operator asks you to wear a mask, then unless you are one of the very few with sound medical reasons not to wear one, then just do it.
Don't give the poor people at the business, or the driver in the case of Uber, a mouthful. Just politely put the mask on and get on with living a peaceful, happy life.
It won't hurt you and heck, it might even save you.
And ultimately if you had a choice of wearing a face mask or experiencing another lockdown, what would you choose?
It's a no contest right?
If you are still unaware, for now, masks are still mandatory in Greater Sydney which includes Wollongong in the following situations _
- shopping (retail, supermarkets and shopping centres)
- on public/shared transport and waiting areas for public/shared transport
- indoor entertainment (including cinemas and theatres)
- places of worship
- hair and beauty premises
- visiting an aged care facility
As the virus cases continue to ease that restriction will be likely eased, but that doesn't mean we can't make sensible decisions ourselves.
If you step out your front door take a mask with you and it will save any embarrassment should you find yourself in an unplanned scenario where you have to wear one.
