Love/Hate: A Queer Cabaret will be performed on February 14 at Wollongong Town Hall.
Love/Hate showcases a variety of performance styles and individuals from the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and all other experiences) community.
Michael Emmett, who will also perform as Connie Bathory, is events co-ordinator at The Rainbow Underground.
The Rainbow Underground aims to provide a safe space and creative opportunities for queer creative people in the Illawarra, and will present this event.
"The theme was decided because Valentine's Day is traditionally a day of love, but there's also the very popular anti-Valentine's Day tradition for people who are single," Emmett said.
"But queer people often find that love and hate are very interconnected emotions. This is due to some people having a negative position against who you love, so you receive a lot of hate for it.
"But hate is also generally psychologically defined as fear turned inwards as well. So sometimes your hate is a reflection of things that you are afraid of.
"For example, the process of coming out is a very terrifying thing... Generally it's a very accepting, loving moment, but there's always the underlying fear of hate, that someone's going to hate you, kick you out, things like that."
The show will feature performances ranging from drag to burlesque, live singing to pole dancing.
