Butcher Birds won their four-team section on a countback and inflicted Falconetts their only loss in the competition, 13-12, in a high quality 15-end Triples final at Fairy Meadow BC.
Butcher Birds were skipped by Lee Chapman, with Anne Clarke, Vicki Attenborough and Linda O'Neill in support, while Debra Moon skipped for Figtree with Julie Breasley, Denise Ryan and Marilyn Peralta playing key roles throughout the season.
Figtree and Thirroul were scheduled to meet in the Illawarra final before Christmas, but the match did not proceed due to two Thirroul players being stuck on Lord Howe Island after their flight home was cancelled.
Both clubs were confident of victory last Thursday with a good turnout of supporters on hand at Fairy Meadow.
Thirroul led 5-3 after six ends, but Figtree responded with back-to-back twos to go ahead 7-5. It was to prove their only lead as Thirroul won five of the next six ends to take a 13-10 advantage into the final end.
Debra Moon picked up two shots but it was not enough and the Butcher Birds celebrated reaching the State Finals at Blacktown Workers on February 27-28.
Merimbula Splinters won the 2020 Summer League state crown last February, shortly before bowls was shut down due to COVID-19.
