Officers conducting routine patrols on the Princes Highway at Unanderra tried to pull over a grey Nissan X-Trail about 9am on Thursday, but when they approached the driver allegedly fled, striking a police vehicle and causing minor damage in the process.
The 32-year-old Matthew Tanti was apprehended a short time later.
Police allegedly found 10.25 grams of methamphetamine and $700 when they searched Tanti.
They also allegedly discovered a loaded 12-gauge shotgun with its serial number removed, ammunition, and gloves inside the vehicle.
Tanti's provisional licence was allegedly disqualified, and police said the registered owner of the Nissan reported it as stolen.
He was charged with 13 offences, including possessing a shortened firearm without authority, possessing a loaded firearm in a public place, supplying a prohibited drug, and negligent driving.
Tanti didn't apply for bail and it was formally refused. His case will return to court on March 11.
