Monday was the first day for the media personality and mum-of-twins, who will be heard with Adam Straney and Damien Leith weekday mornings - broadcasting from her studio in Melbourne.

"She knows the area quite well, she was a great fit for us with our audience as we really wanted someone like Jade," Wave FM general manager Joel Gosper said.

"Meshel is a mother, she understands the needs of being a working parent."

Laurie has appeared on television shows like Spicks and Specks, The Project and Hughesy, We Have a Problem.

While early starts for breakfast radio are not foreign, having been a founding presenter on Nova in Brisbane. Laurie's also written books, co-hosts the Australian True Crime Podcast and is involved in charity work.

Despite broadcasting from another state, Mr Gosper believed the fit was right and said the company continued to be "committed to the local community" with like-minded presenters who have an understanding of issues faced.

Laurie's contract doesn't have an exact end date as yet, but it's expected she will "keep the seat warm" for Tona until mid-year.
