Bike About, the city's annual cycle course held in September, will for the first time come under the festival banner which has been running for 23 years.
"We have had a really crap year and any opportunity to participate in a festival or in sport is a good thing to do," Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said.
But the festival, which runs across March 6 and 7, needs competitors.
Families are currently being urged to register for the four kilometre walk/run event, or the nine kilometer run/bike ride at Keith Hockey Oval.
Teams of 20 paddlers are needed for the Dragon Boat challenge on Lake Illawarra (boats supplied) on March 6; while children aged seven to 12 can enjoy an afternoon of dodgeball and bubble soccer at the Croome Road stadium on the Sunday.
