The Illawarra Stingrays Female Football Development Program will support young girls who want to move from their club to playing in the NSW Women's NPL, with an eye on getting into the W-League and even representing the Matildas. Led by former Western Sydney Wanderers A-League coach Norm Boardman, participants will be given elite coaching.
"It's great, it's going to grow the area down here and lift the standards a little bit for the juniors level. They will learn what's needed and expectations to play at a higher standard. The program is a great initiative for the young ones," Stingrays club captain Carney said.
"When I was coming through, you had to travel a lot to do that extra development stuff, whereas now you don't. You can stay local and don't have to travel as far which is a bonus."
