On Monday the university revealed the latest funds will be used by UOW's medical research institute Molecular Horizons to address various health issues in the Illawarra.
The fifth annual Michael Tynan Memorial Challenge raised money for medical research that helps address health-related issues requiring immediate attention.
Molecular Horizons is a dedicated research facility that includes world-leading researchers and technology.
Tynan Motors Group director Madeline Tynan said the Tynan family was committed to supporting medical research and was passionate about giving back to the community as the business grows in the region.
Mrs Tynan said the work being done with mental health was particularly important.
"I would like to thank everyone in the community who has supported our charity events over the past five years."
Molecular Horizons director Professor Antoine van Oijen said the $50,000 will support research students with scholarships and research projects presently underway.
