Residents in Smith Street, Wollongong were surprised by an unusual sight on Saturday afternoon when a rejected parachute landed in power lines near the Church Street intersection.

It is understood the parachute may have failed to open and was cut loose before a another was deployed and all landed safely.
The Illawarra Mercury has contacted Skydive the Beach for comment.
An Endeavour Energy crew was called to remove the parachute from the lines and there was no power outage in the neighbourhood.
