A large rescue operation was carried out to retrieve a man who has fallen while abseiling down a canyon on Macquarie Pass.
A man in his 30s had a suspected broken elbow after he injured himself when he slipped while moving over a rocky area on the Clover Hill Road walking track.
Emergency services were called to the track at about 1.30pm to reports the man had fallen onto a rock ledge while abseiling.
A specialist operations team from Ambulance NSW, SES members with vertical rescue skills, police rescue, Lake Illawarra police officers and NSW Fire and Rescue crews are also at the scene.
SES volunteers set up roping systems, and after the man was treated by paramedics, he was hauled up a cliff and carried out of the canyon to safety.
