Detectives have charged a Wollongong teacher with indecent assault following allegations a teenage girl was inappropriately touched.

The 47-year-old man was arrested at a Wollongong school about 3.15pm on Wednesday and later charged with aggravated indecent assault where the victim was under the authority of the offender, and indecent assault of a person aged under 16.
The charges followed an investigation by detectives from the Wollongong Police District that began earlier this year, after reports that a 15-year-old girl was inappropriately touched by a teacher in 2018.
The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court next month.
He has been suspended from teaching.
A Department of Education spokesperson said the school and the department were working with police.
The spokesperson said support was also being provided to the school.
