The Dragons are yet to provide a timeline for his return to play, with the captain to see a doctor during the week.
"St George Illawarra captain Ben Hunt suffered an impact fracture to his fibula during the Dragons' 38-12 win over the Sea Eagles on Friday night," a club statement said.
"Hunt's return-to-play timeframe has not yet been determined and will be subject to follow up consultations this week."
The injury comes as Hunt and halves partner Corey Norman finally appeared to have settled into their roles after a frustrating 2020.
The pair were moved around throughout last season, Hunt spending much of the year at hooker.
Griffin's arrival saw the Australian representative return to his preferred position while he was handed the captaincy when Cameron McInnes suffered an ACL tear during the pre-season.
Hunt and Norman combined to lead the Dragons to their first win of the season last weekend, with the side making it two in a row on Friday night.
