Member for Kiama Gareth Ward said that this important work was part of a wider infrastructure upgrade plan, which included getting the South Coast train network ready for the introduction of the New Intercity Fleet.
"We are pressing ahead with these important platform extension upgrades at Kiama to make it easier for customers to get on and off the New Intercity Fleet," he said.
"The new 10-car trains will provide an improved level of comfort, convenience and reliability for South Coast customers."
Work, including to upgrade tracks, will start this week with construction expected to be complete by late next year.
"The $600 million package of work being delivered as part of the New South Wales Government's More Trains, More Services Program will create about 350 direct new jobs and around 200 indirect jobs located either in Sydney or on the South Coast," Mr Ward said.
