The local charity helping disadvantaged women back into the workforce was forced to cease face-to-face services during 2020.
But with the help of federal member for Cunningham Sharon Bird, Stronger Communities funding and local businesses such as Interscope Flooring and Lambert Kitchens, the Port Kembla showroom received an update that has been welcomed by volunteers and clients.
Branch founder and chair Nicki Bowman said the Illawarra team also launched a "Back on Your Feet" program that includes a combined careers workshop and styling service to assist women looking to get back into the workforce after an interruption in employment.
Mrs Bowman said the program was supported by contributions from the BlueScope-WIN Community Fund.
"The premises had old, tiled flooring which had previously been used by a signwriting company and wasn't in great condition, as well as being cold underfoot for our clients," she said.
"Our old change rooms were flimsy and only had one hook, and the client reception area was pretty basic. And the tables where our volunteers sorted clothing were too low and had no storage for their equipment.
"We now have a space that really shows our clients and volunteers how much we value them and offers a safe, welcoming space for women seeking our styling and career assistance services.
"We were also proud to show off our space to our head office staff including new chief executive Leisa Sadler, who grew up in Wollongong, and our new volunteer and operations manager Sarah Cranitch who lives locally."
