I DON'T know who came up with the NBL's 'expect the unexpected' slogan for this season but I doubt even they realised how apt it would prove to be.

As a playing group that's all we've come to expect in a season that's still tossing up curveballs, right down the little mishap we had with the ring on Monday night.
In just about any other season that would seem pretty remarkable but, with everything else that's been thrown at us, it was just another spanner in the works. A small one.
Thankfully it was fixed quickly and we went on to get a win that was really impressive considering that, going into the game, there was talk that it might be cancelled then talk that it could be changed or postponed because of the lockdown in Brisbane.
To come out and perform at the level we did against the Bullets speaks volumes about the type of resilience we've built up through this insane season. Success this year ultimately going to come down to that because all teams are dealing with disruptions.
We were going to play Sydney on Thursday and that changed to New Zealand and then again to South East Melbourne. The only thing that's constant this season is change.
The way you're able to roll with the punches and deal with the unpredictable is super important this year. Winning at home is just as important and we haven't had a whole lot of opportunity to do that thus far.
That's why Monday's win was such a big one for us. Obviously we were excited to get home and play our first game at home in a long time, but it doesn't always pan out well.
It's easy to get caught up in the emotion of it but we took a really narrow focus on bringing the right intensity to start the game.
We knew they played Saturday night and traveled Sunday so they were going to be a little bit more fatigued than we were and I think it showed. We were able to get out and run by getting some stops on defence and play the type of basketball we need to play to be successful.

The other simple fact was that we were able to knock down shots. It's no secret we'd struggled in that area in the games leading in but I don't think Tyler or anyone else on team took shots any different to what they'd been taking in the previous games. They were just going in for us.
Even amid the chaos of a COVID-affected season, some things really are that simple.
It's easy to fall into the trap of gazing at the ladder as a season wears on. It's even more fraught this year given the wildly different schedules teams are facing, but there's no doubt it is starting to take shape.
We're starting to hit that important stage where games are almost worth double. That was the case against the Bullets given we came into the game in third and fourth spot.
We got a win but we handed them a loss that puts a gap between us. If it goes the other way it has a very detrimental effect on us.
We have that same opportunity against South East Melbourne on Thursday which is a big one for a number of reasons.
We've got some atoning to do because we've dropped two games to them, at times where we really needed wins as well.
We've definitely got a chip on our shoulder going into this one because they've had our number. Finals are still a long way away, but you never want to go into a post-season with them still having the wood on us and coming in with a lot of confidence.
We need to come out with the energy we had against Brisbane because, if we start that way defensively, that leads to our offense and I don't think there's many teams that can match our firepower if we're getting out and running the floor like that.
Speaking to the front office, I know Thursday's game game was selling really well. It was no surprise because our rivalry with the Kings is pretty-much unmatched, but hopefully people can still get out and support us.
I know Wollongong fans get behind a team that's playing well and playing hard at home. We want to get that stadium close to full and string a few wins together because we really need to in this stretch coming up.
