Anthony Daniano Sorace, who is the principal and director of A-List Property Group Wollongong, fronted Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday over a charge of possessing a prohibited drug.
Magistrate Darryl Pearce said he would give the 30-year-old the benefit of the doubt and would not record a conviction for the charge.
He instead ordered him to be of good behaviour for two years.
Magistrate Pearce said he was surprised that with Sorace's "education and position as a real estate agent" that he would "even attempt to have a drug in [his] pocket".
"I don't for one moment suggest this is minor," he said.
"Cocaine...can destroy lives."
Documents tendered to court said Sorace was found with 0.37 grams of cocaine contained in a clear glass vile on December 18 last year.
Sorace's lawyer Chris Eliopoulos said his client was at a Christmas party at bar, The Icon, in Wollongong shortly before 10pm.
He said Sorace was spoken to by police where he made full admissions to having the cocaine and was co-operative with officers before he was charged.
Mr Eliopoulos submitted the offence was at the "lower end" of seriousness and Sorace's risk of reoffending was low.
He highlighted that Sorace wrote a letter to the court in which he expressed his remorse for his actions.
The letter also said Sorace did not support the drug trade and he knew the impact drugs had on the community, adding he "won't ever let it happen again".
Mr Eliopoulos asked the court to not impose a conviction so his client could "show the court he can be of good behaviour".
