Glen Boss has partnered Think It Over eight times and only missed a place once on their way to Group 1 glory in the George Ryder Stakes.
So trainer Kerry Parker has every reason to believe Boss will conjure some magic again in Saturday's Doncaster Mile, a dream first spoken about in November, now a reality.
Boss is known for his big-race rides.
His career is littered with triumphs on the grand stage, notably three consecutive Melbourne Cups on the legendary Makybe Diva, four Cox Plates, including one on Think It Over's dad So You Think and victory in the $15 million Everest with Yes Yes Yes.
There was also a time when the Doncaster Mile was Boss's turf.
He owned the prize with four of five wins between 2004 and 2008, most memorably his famous ride on Private Steer for John O'Shea, weaving through traffic from last to haul in Grand Armee in the final strides.
"She should not have won," Boss said at the time.
"This is equal to the Cup (Melbourne Cup), it is such a thrill."
While Boss will ride Think It Over more positively, he may have to deliver his Group 1 best again to from barrier 18 for Parker on Saturday.
Parker has avoided comparisons to Brilliant Light, which gamely finished third in the 2010 Doncaster for him, despite being off the track throughout.
The Kembla trainer's other sweet Group 1 success, Queensland Derby winner Dark Dream, comes with a bitter aftertaste when the horse was taken off him afterwards.
But Think It Over keeps defying expectations and has amassed $1,349,570 in career prize money.
So while the wide gate is yet another obstacle for Parker, it's also a golden opportunity, chasing the $1.8 million winner's purse.
"We've got the right bloke to win, for that mile, with a field of 20 horses," Parker said.
"I'm confident in him and the horse and I know Glen is confident in the horse.
"They've gotten to know each other and he responds to Glen when he needs to."
A Craven Plate win last preparation was a precursor to his Group 3 Liverpool City Cup win at $41, then second in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes ($51), before proving his Group 1 credentials in the 1500m George Ryder ($26).
Boss declared he will not die wondering chasing an eighth career Doncaster.
"You've just got to back yourself with what your plan is," Boss told Sky Racing.
"You've got to execute it really quickly and get it done and ride the race from there.
"I'd be so happy for Kerry, it would be an amazing story for Kerry and the connections, they've got a really good horse and they're riding the crest of a wave right now."
