The family-operated circus has often been subject to protests over their entertainment content, but the decision to find a new home for their beloved big cats and cheeky monkeys was because of insurance.

"Now they're going to a zoo," said spokeswoman Jan Lennon. "We can't work them because of the insurance, they've just clamped right down."

But ponies, dogs and goats will still be under the big top, along with acrobats, clowns, unicyclists and more.

Mrs Lennon said they were hit hard by the pandemic and had to cease their travelling lifestyle, setting up for an extended stay near Windsor.

Nowra was their first season back performing after more than a year on the sidelines, with Warrawong their second off the bat.
