Jane Stroud will be starting in the role on Monday, June 7.
This follows the departure of former general manager Kerry McMurray.
According to council documents, the change in job title for the role reflected many councils having changed the position title from general manager to chief executive officer.
"The current position title of the role is general manager/CEO Blue Haven," the papers read.
"The position title change would remove confusion that may be created by the current dual title..."
Mrs Stroud holds a Bachelor degree from the University of Queensland and post graduate qualifications from the Sunshine Coast University.
Mrs Stroud was awarded Queensland Local Government Association 'Young Manager of the Year' and is also a member of the Australian Planning Institute, having held a national board role for several years focused on social planning.
She was also the president of the Queensland Local Government Community Services Association.
"I'm very excited to be taking up the opportunity and can't wait to meet the whole team and the community," Mrs Stroud said.
"My family and I are looking forward to settling in and becoming part of the fabric of community. I am personally very pleased to be able to bring my experience and skills to the role."
The council officially announced the resignation of Mr McMurray in January, following weeks of uncertainty over his future.
This included an extraordinary meeting of the council in December, closed to the public and media, with the agenda item listed as a "confidential staff matter".
Amid reports Mr McMurray had been dismissed from his role, Kiama council had only confirmed the then general manager had gone on leave.
On Friday, Kiama Mayor Mark Honey said councillors voted unanimously to offer the CEO role to Mrs Stroud.
"Jane has worked in local government in Queensland for over 20 years and brings a wide range of planning, innovation and community experience at the executive level," Cr Honey said.
"Jane has extensive leadership experience including; acting CEO and deputy CEO and Director level roles in several councils in South East and regional Queensland.
"She also has experience working in large metropolitan coastal councils, as well as urban and regional communities. Jane brings a wealth of knowledge and energy to the role of CEO."
Cr Honey said he also wished to thank both council's director of Environmental Services, Jessica Rippon and council's director engineering and works, Mike Dowd for their stewardship and leadership acting in the role of CEO since the departure of the former general manager.
Mr Dowd will continue in the role until Mrs Stroud's commencement on June 7.
