Bairstow has been restricted to just 14 games in his debut NBL campaign in Wollongong due to a persistent lower leg concern. He has been important to the Hawks when he has played, averaging more than 11 points and six rebounds per game.
However, Baristow last took to the court in late March and has been sorely missed by the Hawks, who dropped five games from seven starts in April. Bairstow is looking at an indefinite stint on the sidelines, with the club still offering no timeframe for his potential return.
It has been a frustrating season for the 30-year-old, who was signed by the Hawks last August. At the time, coach Brian Goorjian said he saw the former NBA and Bullets big man as a key part of their rebuilding project.
"Cam brings big game experience to the Hawks and will provide a strong leadership presence for our young roster," Goorjian said.
