Jayden Sierra was touring North America with Cirque's ice-skating arena show AXEL but returned home once the COVID-19 pandemic began.
The musician and performer then delved back into musical theatre and is now cast in the lead role of Frankie Valli in this production.
"I love theatre, I love music, I love performing," Sierra said.
"What's really cool about this show is it combines two loves of mine which is that kind of pop contemporary sound that is very much The Four Seasons, and being onstage and performing in musical theatre.
"I wouldn't typically categorise myself as a traditional theatre singer, there's a style to that ... but this show's different. Everyone recognises the songs, it's basically a rock band set-up with an orchestra weaved in."
The production is a documentary-style musical chronicling '60s rock group The Four Seasons and includes many of their hit songs like Big Girls Don't Cry, Walk Like A Man, My Boyfriend's Back and Can't Take My Eyes Off You.
The 26-year-old has also snagged roles in previous productions by the company including The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast.
Jersey Boys is the first time So Popera - run by the Copeland family - will present an entire musical at the WEC, a lot larger than the usual Illawarra Performing Arts Centre.
"The entertainment centre has been asking us to present a show there for quite some time, and this just seemed to be the right kind of show," Amy Copeland said.
"It's a rock concert style of musical theatre show rather than a straight classic musical theatre production."
Jersey Boys is at WIN Entertainment Centre from Thursday May 6 to Sunday May 9. Tickets through www.ticketmaster.com.au
