Just after 2.30pm police were called to Bendigo Bank on the Princes Highway, Fairy Meadow, after reports of an armed robbery.
Police have been told a man, who was armed with a firearm, threatened two tellers and demanded cash. It's not known what was stolen.
A short time after, police were called to a post office further north along the Princes Highway, at Woonona, following reports of a second armed robbery, where cash was stolen.
The suspect believed responsible for both robberies has been described as Caucasian in appearance, with a heavy build and light blond scruffy hair. He was wearing a red beanie and a black face mask, a blue check flannelette shirt, grey trackpants, white socks and white Nike slides.
Witnesses told police the man had a black waterproof hooded jacket over his face at the second location.
Meantime an employee at a business in Fairy Meadow told the Mercury it was business as usual after the first incident.
"I head sirens ... then they stopped right out the front and that's the first I knew ... the street is very quiet, it's weird," they said.
Investigations are ongoing, including if the incidents are linked.
Anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the surrounding area is urged to call Wollongong Police or Crime Stoppers.
