Magistrate Susan McGowan was less than impressed with Candice Tautuhi's lacklustre attempts at rehabilitation since the May 2020 incidents, saying the court was left with little choice when it came to sentencing options.
"If people aren't going to do anything about their addiction and put others lives at risk then the court has little room to manoeuvre," she said during a hearing in Wollongong Local Court this week.
However, she agreed to delay Tautuhi's sentencing on a host of driving-related offences for two weeks so the 19-year-old could be assessed for a place in the court-appointed drug program MERIT.
Documents tendered to the court reveal Tautuhi was driving a Ford Laser along Five Islands Road at Unanderra just after 8.30pm when she failed tot give way at a roundabout and hit a Mercedes bus.
Tautuhi mouthed "sorry" at the female driver and drove off, but pulled into a service station down the road to inspect the damage.
The Mercedes driver pulled up behind her, at which time Tautuhi's passenger threatened the woman, before he and Tautuhi drove off.
Tautuhi was behind the wheel of the Ford Laser again later that afternoon when police attempted to stop her on the Princes Highway at Fairy Meadow after receiving reports of the Laser's two nearside tyres were so bare the vehicle was being driven on its rims.
Tautuhi initially pulled over when directed by then sped away from the officers, who gave chase.
She eventually lost control of the car near Corrimal and collided with a traffic light at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Railway Street.
Tautuhi was seen to be unsteady on her feet when she exited the car and her eyes were glazed.
A subsequent blood test conducted at Wollongong Hospital revealed she had methamphetamine, cannabis and the tranquliser clonazepam in her system.
Tautuhi will be sentenced on May 25.
