Benjamin Arthur Elphick came off second-best in a tussle with a sheriff at Wollongong Court on Friday.

Elphick, who faced court on charges related to violence, began to lose his cool when Acting Judge Norman Delaney suggested Elphick needed to commit to working on his anger management and substance abuse problems.
"It is clear from the material before me he requires assistance regarding anger management, drug and alcohol use," Acting Judge Delaney said in Wollongong District Court.
The 30-year-old Elphick then stood up and began pacing the gallery, yelling insults at Acting Judge Delaney.
"F---ing lying pedo [sic] dogs," Elphick yelled.
"I want a f---ing cigarette."
Mr Elphick then barged past a sheriff and left the courtroom.
The sheriff followed Elphick, who turned and squared up in a boxer's stance. He raised his fists and made bobbing movements with his head.
The sheriff wrapped him in a bear hug and brought Elphick to the floor with an outside trip; Elphick collided with a glass wall on the way down and caused several large cracks.
Elphick's mother, who was in the court, began to cry loudly, and begged the sheriff not to hurt her son.
He was escorted back into the courtroom by a number of sheriffs.
Elphick was placed in the dock looking dishevelled; his shirt was torn and he had a mangled cigarette dangling from his mouth.
"They're not bad wrestlers, those sheriffs," he told the judge.

Acting Judge Delaney said Elphick's actions did not change the sentence he had decided upon beforehand.
"As I was saying before, Mr Elphick exempted himself from the court during my judgement, I have questions about rehabilitation and recidivism," Acting Judge Delaney said.
"I am satisfied he should receive a sentence of imprisonment and that sentence should be full time. I cannot be satisfied that the community would be safe if he served his sentence in the community."
Elphick has a history of violent and erratic behaviour.
In 2016 he pleaded guilty to charges of furious driving causing bodily harm and failing to stop after a crash, after he drove his car into the car of a man he had ben "warring" with, breaking a passenger's ankle.
He was jailed later that year after an attempt to steal a Barrack Heights goat named Gladys.
He could not offer an explanation for his behaviour.
In 2017 he was refused bail after police accused him of brutally bashing a one-time mate over alleged dodgy workmanship on a car.
