The regional tour will begin at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre on July 20 with repertoire from popular productions like Don Quixote and The Sleeping Beauty plus a new work Swan Lake Variations, while the tour also connects the arts organisations to local schools and community groups along the way.
Ballet enthusiats will also be able to get a (free) behind-the-scenes look at the life of a dancer, as they take a lesson at IPAC on the morning of the production to help them find new heights of technical excellence and maintain their peak fitness.
"Many of our artists' careers were cultivated in remote and regional dance schools across the nation," artistic director David Hallberg said.
"For budding dancers, or those new to ballet to have the opportunity to see their national ballet company in or close to their hometown, shows audiences how rich the arts are here in Australia and how The Australian Ballet is helping to lead the importance of culture."
Meantime, the tour also provides an opportunity for The Australian Ballet School's graduating students to gain valuable experience of professional dancing. The students rehearse, prepare and tour with company dancers and members of the Ballet's artistic staff.
It also heads to Orange and Wagga Wagga; Port Pirie, Whyalla and Renmark; and Warrnambool, Ballarat and Wangaratta.
