Most clubs conduct some form of competition over this period and ANSW is encouraging clubs to do this.
IBS winter program is a full one with both cross country and winter track and field and the pleasing aspect is that these events are opened to all ages and all abilities from Under 8 right through to masters men and women.
Some beautiful courses have been designed for cross country with possibly the best course for both scenery and beauty of the Minnumurra course, the first round to be conducted on this venue will be Sunday June 6 with 2km and 4km runs taking place. Sandon Point course is also a lovely course with a variety of hills, sand and of course the long up and down slopes of the course.
The Camden event to be held on Queens Birthday weekend is a new course and will be interesting to see how athletes handle this course that has been described by some as hard and taxing.
The Wollongong City beach run was one of the popular courses last season but also a challenging one.
An out and back course, pushes athletes to their limit as they tackle the hard running of either 2km or 4km with most of the runs being conducted over sand.
Illawarra Blue Stars members and supporters and also new members will welcome the progress of the grandstand renovations taking place until late May.
Athletes and supporters will have the grandstand back for seating for the first round of the winter track and field series to be held on Sunday May 23, at Kerryn McCann Centre.
Events listed are 60m, all ages (10.45am), walk (11am), 150m all ages (11.30am), 2x200m relay (12pm).
Field events including shot and long jump will be held for all ages will be held throughout the meet, and throwers in under 18, under 20 open and masters will welcome the added throw of the javelin. The club is conducting the annual awards evening a little later than usual but this years event will be a combination of both a presentation of awards for the season 2020-2021.
It will be conducted at Dapto Leagues Club on June 5, members are urged to support this event, and get together with teammates and supporters and reward members of their achievements. Among the top honours include the overall men's and women's pointscore, outstanding male and female athletic performance and throwers of the year.
Official and rookie masters athletes of the year are among the other prizes and the process of determining these awards has been very hard.
Athletes must have competed in more than 50 per cent of the Sunday events to be eligible for the pointscore, but there are other special awards to be announced.
School carnivals will be commencing soon, best of luck to members progressing through the zone, regional and state levels.
