That's the belief of Michael Bowden, who has organised an event for local dads.
"Something I hear a lot from other dads is 'I don't need to go to therapy or anything like that, there's nothing wrong with me'," he said.
"But dads often struggle to connect to their kids on an emotional level and have those hard conversations; kids often have a hard time approaching their parents for hard conversations too."
He hopes his upcoming event 'There's nothing wrong with me,' featuring three speakers will help attendees learn some new tools for connecting with their kids, as well as helping them connect with other dads.
"Hopefully this can help dads, granddads, uncles to support the teens in their lives," he said.
The event is the product of Mr Bowden's project 'Rockstar Dads'.
Rockstar Dads aims to create a community for dads to connect, share their stories and be the greatest dads they can be.
'There's nothing wrong with me,' will be the first in a series of similar events.
The event will be help on June 18 at the Kiama Leagues Club. Tickets available at: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/154239734197
