Albion Park was still recording a temperature of 3.3 degrees at 7:50am though the bureau reported it would feel more like 1.8 degrees.

That was far warmer than Thursday morning's lowest temperature with 0.4 degrees at 5:30am for Shellharbour suburb.

The cold snap has brought a flurry of snow to the state's alpine region ahead of the official opening of the ski season from this long weekend. Perisher was recording a massive 60 cm of fresh snow dumped in their recent storm.

For Wollongong and Albion Park, the Bureau of Meteorolgy was forecasting some slight reprieve with top temperatures in the night teens with mixed mostly sunny days predicted for the weekend.

Kiama, however, was expecting a shower or two for Friday but clearing to a mostly sunny weekend.

A sheep graziers warning has also been issued for Friday, alerting farmers of the Illawarra and South Coast cold temperatures, showers and southwesterly winds could pose a a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

Snowy Mountains and Southern Tablelands districts are also forecast to be affected.

Saturday a strong wind warning has been issued for the Illawarra coast as well as Hunter, Batemans and Edens Coast.

Meantime, for snow bunnies heading to the alpine region for fun, police are reminding pepole to have a plan, be prepared and stay safe.

Officers will be out and about throughout the season with a strong focus on road safety, alcohol-related crime, anti-social behaviour and personal safety.
