The quiet rural farming area of Numbaa, east of Nowra, is in shock after a woman was found dead inside her home this morning.
The woman's body was found by a family member at the Comerong Island Road home at Numbaa around 11.20am.
A contingent of general duty officers from the South Coast Police District along with detectives have cordoned off the house, establishing a crime scene.
A forensic officer is investigating the scene.
Within a short time, police arrested a 37-year-old man at a nearby property, which has also been cordoned off with police tape.
He was taken to Nowra Police Station, where he is assisting officers with their inquiries.
Police are treating the death as suspicious.
Comerong Island Road, east of Nowra is closed between Millbank Road and Jindy Andy Lane due to the ongoing operation and is expected to be closed for some hours.
Access is only available for residents.
