About 11.45pm on Saturday, police say a man was walking along Collins Street, Corrimal, when he was confronted by approximately 10 people.
A physical altercation occurred, with the man sustaining a stab wound to his abdomen.
Paramedics treated the 18-year-old man at the scene, before he was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.
He remained in a stable condition on Sunday afternoon.
Wollongong Police District officers have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
They are appealing for anyone with information - or mobile phone and dashcam footage - to contact Wollongong Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
