Despite being outplayed by the u13s Shellharbour Swans Red, the Southern Highlands Hawks can still hold their heads up high.
The Hawks competed against the Swans on Sunday, June 20 in round eight of the Illawarra Juniors u13s competition on their home turf at Welby Oval, losing 3.1(19) to 13.14(92).
The u13s Hawks finished with 1.0 (6) to the Swans 4.3 (27) in the first quarter.
Although the final score was a massive deficit, u13s Hawks coach Matt Griffiths said it was pleasing to see his side lift in the following quarters.
"The second quarter was much better and the third was really good," Griffiths said.
U11s and assisting u13s coach Steve Fitzgerald said there was potential for the two Hawks teams to play in the finals following the u11s victory against the Shellharbour Swans.
"As a club, this is the best they've been in 15 years," Fitzgerald said.
"They need to just keep competing hard and work hard for each other."
The u13s Hawks are currently in third place on the ladder behind the Shellharbour Swans White and leaders Shellharbour Swans Red, while the u11s are fifth in their competition.
The u13s Hawks next play the Shellharbour Swans White at Myimbarr Oval on July 11.
