A Mangerton woman has admitted to playing a role in the supply of the illicit drug 'liquid ecstasy' in the Wollongong area.
Ashleigh Jade Clay-Butler pleaded guilty in the Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday to charges of knowingly taking part in the supply of a prohibited drug, and supplying a prohibited drug.
Investigators detected Clay-Butler's offending during the course of Strike Force Cohen, a Wollongong Crime Investigations Drug Unit probe into the supply of gamma butyrolactone and methamphetamine in the Wollongong and Lake Illawarra areas.
Documents tendered to the court revealed the operation involved the use of telephone intercepts, as well as covert and physical surveillance.
In early August last year, police intercepted conversations between Clay-Butler, a co-accused and another woman about the purchase of 1.5 litres, or 1950 grams, of gamma butyrolactone (GBL) for an agreed price of $2000.
Clay-Butler was with the woman when she was recorded talking on the phone with her co-accused about payment for the drug known as 'liquid ecstasy'.
On August 2, Clay-Butler received the 1.5 litres of GBL.
The following day police raided Clay-Butler's home in Myuna Way, Mangerton and found numerous items, including GBL in soft drink bottles, a spray bottle, a pink jug, a blue bottle, and a vodka bottle.
Clay-Butler told police that the GBL in the soft drink and spray bottles were hers, for personal use.
She said she was aware of the other bottle and the jug, but denied knowledge of the vodka bottle, which held the greatest amount of the drug.
A set of agreed facts said Clay-Butler allowed the drug to be stored at her home, but the Crown could not establish beyond a reasonable doubt that she knew about the GBL in the vodka bottle.
At the home, police also found a notebook belonging to Clay-Butler containing entries consistent with a drug ledger.
Clay-Butler will be sentenced in the District Court at a later date.
She remains in custody.
