Despite flowing waters, trout season is closed until October 1, though some of the Alpine lakes trolling brigade have had outstanding success.
The bitterly cold weather has deterred anglers but not the trout, as a few big browns at 4kg were taken by trolling Tasmanian Devil-style lures in the Eucumbene Dam last weekend.
The fly chuckers were blown off the water at Tantangara, with snow and sleet aplenty. Snowy dam capacities show Jindabyne at 76 per cent, Eucumbene (22) and Tantangara (25).
