A 14-year-old boy was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen BMW that crashed in Bellambi early Friday afternoon.
About 12.15pm today, Wollongong police officers were patrolling the Bellambi area for a car stolen from Shell Cove overnight when they saw the vehicle in question performing burnouts near the boat ramp.
The car failed to stop so police started a pursuit, which ended when the car hit a street sign and a pole on Robert Cram Drive.
The alleged driver, a 14-year-old boy, and a male passenger were arrested and taken to Wollongong police station.
Police will allege the BMW was stolen from a Shell Cove address between 10pm Thursday and 6.30am Friday.
Charges are expected to be laid.

Emergency services have attended a crash in Bellambi that is understood to have followed a police pursuit.
The incident occurred about 12.30pm in Robert Cram Drive, near the boat ramp.
Paramedics attended, but no one required transport to hospital.
The BMW knocked down a light pole in the incident.
A Bellambi resident said the vehicle already had damage to its front before the crash occurred.
"He came up from the boat ramp, then he did some wheelies on the dirt there, then he went into Waley [Avenue] which is around the corner, then I heard sirens," the man said.
"Then he must have come back down here, and the moment I heard the sirens I stepped out my front door and I heard the big wallop, where he must have... ended up."
