Tyre tracks were found on Monday morning, left in the wet ground by unknown persons.
A council spokesperson said they would be unable to fix the grounds until drier weather arrives.
"The main oval area of Stuart Park has sustained damage over the weekend due to illegal burnout activity," the spokesperson said.
"The damage was exacerbated by recent wet weather and we will undertake remediation works to the damaged oval once the ground dries.
"It's always disappointing when our community's valued greenspaces are damaged in this way.
"We encourage anyone with information about the incident to contact NSW Police or Wollongong City Council on (02) 4227 7111."
