The battle between the world no.1 and the defending Olympic champions shaped as mouth-watering, with Argentina grabbing the early ascendancy at Oi Hockey Stadium. However, Blake Govers' goal late in the first quarter proved the game's turning point.
The Albion Park talent would go on to muster a double, while Tom Wickham, Lachlan Sharpe and Jeremy Hayward also scored for the winners. The result means the Australians remain undefeated after three games to stay on top of the Pool A table.
Players were greeted by wet conditions but Argentina were red-hot early, forcing two penalty corners. The pressure told on Australia's defence, with Jose Tolini scoring within four minutes.
But the Kookaburras weathered the storm and then applied their own pressure, with Wickham and Flynn Ogilvie nearly setting up scoring opportunities.
The world no.1 forced two penalty corners in the final minute and were rewarded, with Govers finding the back of the net to draw level at 1-1 at the first break.
Two green cards to Argentina either side of the quarter proved crucial. The Kookaburras made the most of their advantage, with Wickham scored following a nice assist from Tim Brand.
The Kookaburras continued to swarm. After forcing two penalty corners, Govers mustered his second before Sharpe scored two minutes later to give them a 4-1 lead at half time.
Momentum swung towards Argentina in the third, however, the Australians stood firm in defence.
At the other end, four became five when Hayward found the back of the net. The Aussies controlled possession for the remainder of the quarter to lead 5-1 heading into the final break.
The 2016 gold medallists fought hard in the fourth quarter and were rewarded when Maico Casella Scuth scored with six minutes left to cut the final deficit to 5-2.
