Police allegedly detected the man driving along the M1 Princes Motorway at Wollongong at 107km/h in an 80km/h zone early this morning.
When asked what he was doing, the man said he had left his Liverpool home in order to head to the South Coast to see the sun rise.
Police issued the man with two penalty notices - a $494 fine for excess speed and a $1000 fine for breaching public health orders.
He was directed to return home immediately.
