Just weeks after a new Macca's opened for drive-thru and takeaway on the Princes Highway, Unanderra, at the start of the present COVID-19 lockdown, a spokesperson for the restaurant chain confirmed a Development Application has been lodged with Shellharbour City Council for a new store near the corner of Tongarra Road and Terry Street, Albion Park.
"McDonald's is currently working through the Development Application approval process for a proposed restaurant in Albion Park at 135 to 141 Tongarra Rd after constructive pre-engagement with Shellharbour Council," the spokesperson said.
"If approved, the proposed restaurant would play an active role in the community through providing jobs, training and development opportunities for local employees.
"Following approval, the proposed restaurant would inject over $5 million into the local economy and create 100 jobs during construction, as well as a further 120 jobs once operational."
McDonald's Australia has been active rolling out plans for new restaurants in the region during the last 18 months.
Another, planned for Wongawilli, was met with opposition from residents in that area.
Wollongong City Council has received amended plans for the site at the corner of Raven St and West Dapto Rd as the developers seek approval through the Land and Environment Court.
The independent local planning panel knocked back the application last September.
There is no service station in the new plan but the McDonald's restaurant and drive-thru remain.
