Imagine being a full-time athlete on the biggest world stage possible in the sport you've dedicated your life too.
Imagine then having the most extraordinary week of competition where you smash your competitors and write yourself into the history books as a nation's greatest Olympic athlete of all time.
Imagine also having to do it without the support of family and friends around you in the stands. All this and you are the toast of an entire nation.
Then also imagine having to spend two weeks confined to quarantine at the end of that, unable to truly enjoy the adulation.
Having to board a plane to go into the quarantine camp even as you were being touted as the favourite to carry the flag for your country in recognition of your history-making performance.
That is the reality that is facing our very own Emma McKeon after her incredible performance at the Tokyo Olympics.
Her seven medals from Tokyo means Emma has officially became Australia's greatest Olympian.
She is only the second female in Olympic history to win seven medals at the one Games, which is also the most ever by an Australian.
So we figured what better time to get behind our Olympic hero than when she is in lockdown?
We asked a few prominent Wollongong citizens to send a message of support to Emma and we have shared those messages on our social platforms.
We are now calling on the whole of Wollongong to join in the cause and send their own video message to Emma which can be uploaded to our Facebook page.
There will also be a message wall where you can leave your written messages of support.
In addition to that, there will be a special Hero Poster for Emma in Saturday's print edition of the Illawarra Mercury to commemorate her achievements.
Please show your support for our Olympic champion and what was the performance of a lifetime.
Join us in saying "well done and thank you Emma McKeon".
