The three-bedroom, one-bathroom home at 684 Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Coledale sold for $3,210,000 on Saturday via online auction.
Set on 828 square metres, it's located less than 100 metres from Coledale Beach, camping reserve and surf lifesaving club.
The property also enjoys views of the coastline and the escarpment.
Selling agent, Barbara Wright from Seacliff Property Thirroul said it was sold to a family from Cronulla.
There were 16 registered bidders, and more than 30 bids, as developers, investors and a party who wanted to build a dream home battled it out.
The latter was the successful buyer.
"There were five people fighting for it, but in the end there were two buyers left," she said.
Mrs Wright said it was an "emotional" purchase for the buyer, who planned to conduct a knockdown-rebuild and construct their dream family home on the large block opposite the beach.
Meanwhile, a home at 4 Sutherland Street, Helensburgh located on a 1265sqm block and surrounded by bushland, sold for $1.59 million last week.
Selling agent, Elle Ritson from Ray White Helensburgh said the home was purchased by a family from Engadine after a "fast-paced" auction.
She said there were four registered bidders, of which two parties eventually went back and forth.
There were also 28 users viewing the auction online who didn't participate.
"Doing it online makes it very easy to watch, and I think a lot of Helensburgh residents knew about this property, and there was a lot of interest as to what it would go for," Mrs Ritson said.
Seller Amanda Wood recently told the Mercury that 4 Sutherland Street was built by her husband Ben's grandfather George, and had been in the family for 70 years.
Mrs Wood said after living there for about ten years it was a reluctant sale - "we love that little home" - but with a young, growing family they needed to upsize.
She said the home was mostly in original condition, with some updates including a new deck, bathroom and floating floors.
Also, the home at 2 Yuill Avenue, Corrimal sold for $1,583,500 under the virtual hammer last week.
Bidding quickly reached the $1.3 million mark, before a late series of bids in $500 increments ensued.
It had a reserve price of $1.55 million.
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home is set on 714 square metres, and contains a backyard featuring an in-ground pool and cubby house.
Selling agent, Jordan Andonovski from The Agency Illawarra said the property had half-a-dozen registered bidders, a mix of local and Sydney parties.
It was sold to a Sydney buyer looking to downsize.
"It's a newer house, on the escarpment, virtually flat, has a pool and is very family-orientated, but also suited to both downsizers and the upgrading buyer," Mr Andonovski said.

The Agency Illawarra also sold 12 Boronga Crescent, Berkeley via online auction.
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom house sold for $910,000, well above the price guide of $770,000.
Mr Andonovski said the home was sold to an out of area buyer.
"There were ten registered bidders, it went pretty strongly and there were a lot of people fighting for it," he said.
