A talented crop of Illawarra athletes will vie for gold, with a number of teams and individuals in the mix for a medal in Tokyo.
Like the Olympics, the Paralympic Games will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and stream on 7Plus.
This is your complete guide to the Illawarra's Paralympic athletes and when to watch them.
Athletics
James Turner
A Paralympic gold medalist in the T36 800 metres in Rio, Turner was forced to change events for Tokyo due to an overhaul to the program.
That saw the Athletics Wollongong talent turn his focus to the 100m and 400m sprint distances. The shift did not slow the 25-year-old down, as he set World Records and took out both events at the 2019 World Championships.
Turner's campaign starts on Tuesday with the 400m final before the 100m heats next Friday.
- Men's T36 400m final - Tuesday August 31 12.20pm
- Men's T36 100m heat - Friday September 3 9.27pm
- Men's T36 100m final - Saturday September 4 11.38am
Cycling
Amanda Reid
A multi-sport star, Amanda Reid competed in swimming at the 2012 Paralympic Games before taking up cycling.
From there, the Werri Beach talent won silver in Rio and she's on the hunt to go one better in Tokyo.
An athlete with cerebral palsy and an intellectual impairment, Reid will contest the C2 500m time trial in the velodrome.
- Women's C2 500m Time Trial - Friday August 27 11am
Triathlon
Jonathan Goerlach
A triathlon veteran, Goerlach finally gets his opportunity to race for a medal at the Paralympic Games after his classification was added to the program in Tokyo.
The 38-year-old grew up in Nowra before moving to Wollongong in recent years to pursue his dream of competing in Japan.
Goerlach will contest the PTVI triathlon event for vision-impaired athletes. He will race alongside his guide David Mainwaring.
- Men's PTVI Triathlon - Saturday August 28 9.30am
Wheelchair Basketball
Brett Stibners, Tristan Knowles and Hannah Dodd
The Wollongong Roller Hawks have a proud history of producing Paralympians and that trend continues in 2021.
Wheelchair basketball veteran Brett Stibners is back for his fourth, and most likely last, Games, the 42-year-old chasing a second gold medal.
The Oak Flats talent will be joined by Roller Hawks teammate Tristan Knowles, the 38-year-old contesting his fifth Paralympics.
Knowles was alongside Stibners in Beijing, London and Rio, while he also won gold in Athens in 2004.
Hannah Dodd will fly the flag for the Illawarra in the Australian women's team. The 29-year-old competed in para-equestrian in London, before turning her focus to wheelchair basketball and joining the Roller Hawks in 2016.
Dodd regularly trains and plays alongside the likes of Knowles and Stibners and she's hoping this has prepared her well in her quest for Paralympic gold.
