Musician Lizzie Jack received her first dose on Tuesday, and said she felt one step closer to a normal life.
"Our band had a pretty good lineup for the year, but more than that I'm a really social person," she said.
"So much of what was normal for my life has been turned on its head - hanging out with friends, playing music, getting a meal or playing netball.
"I'm excited to be able to socialise and hug people again - everything else is secondary to that."
Ms Jack - who fronts Lizzie Jack and the Beanstalks - said she had conversations with local health researchers and her GP before she got vaccinated, and had no fears.
"If someone like Emma McKeon can get it and be in the best shape of their life, it's clear the benefits far outweigh any risks," Ms Jack said.
"I've been vaccinated for everything my whole life, I'm very much pro-science and pro-listening to the experts.
"My mindset was I listen to my GP for all my health advice, so I'll listen to him on this."
She jumped at the opportunity to throw her support behind the #vaxtheillawarra campaign.
Theatre producer Michael Cassel, entertainer Scott Radburn and Danny Munk of Aster Group have also backed the campaign.
The campaign hopes the Illawarra region will be the first in the state to reach 80 per cent vaccinated.
Currently 40 per cent of the region is fully vaccinated, and almost 70 per cent of people have received at least one dose.
"People who are hesitant must have at least one friend or family member who has been vaccinated," Ms Jack said.
"I'm not sure why they still feel hesitant, unless they're paying too much attention to misinformation spread on social media.
"I hope this campaign will help people see the benefits of getting vaccinated for our community.
"Until we can all get together again, I'd encourage anyone who is able to support artists by buying their music online, buying merchandise, and when venues are open, buy tickets."
