The international friendly will mark the first time that Tony Gustavsson's side have played together since falling 4-3 to USA in last month's bronze medal game. However, it was a fairly positive campaign, with new blood introduced into the squad.

To quickly get back quickly into competitive football post-Olympics is good timing for them and if they can build on that Games effort, and some of those new players like Mary Fowler keep getting game time, it will put them in good stead for the 2023 Women's World Cup.

The Matildas obviously have a fairly established core group of players, but these types of games are where the coach will find out more about his players and what he has available to him.

Wednesday's game will also mark Sam Kerr's 100^th as a Matilda. Kerr is obviously the captain, she's been a key player for over a decade and is a proven goal scorer, as well as being one of the best talents in women's football.

There's not many Aussies who get to play 100 games for their country in any sport, so her milestone is huge for the Matildas and huge for Australian football.
