Now in its seventh year, participants can buy a ticket to submit 20 items of clothing and will be allocated a COVID-safe time slot to select their new wares at Coledale Community Hall.
Founder Shane Moon said garments need to be in good enough condition as if you were going to give them to a neighbour or friend.
"It's a way to experiment with different clothes," she said. "I encourage people not to buy clothes because it feeds that whole fast fashion and how much excessive stuff we have."
Every 10 minutes, Australians dump 15 tonnes of clothing and fabric waste - which adds up to 800,000 tonnes, or 31 kilograms per person each year, according to Clean Up Australia.
Ms Moon also said she has had inquiries by people wanting to donate hundreds of items but not participate in the swap, which is not what the event is about.
"It's finding different ways to use your clothes so it may help you to look at items differently ... or it might inspire you to fix something or repurpose something that you've got," she said.
Due to COVID-safety all clothing items will need to be "pre-dropped" at a date and location to be announced, with hourly time-slots for up to 100 people to choose items at Coledale from 10am with the last group at 3pm.
Meantime, fashionistas shouldn't worry about missing out on hidden gems if attending in the afternoon.
"Everyone's got a limit of what they can take so it's not like you can go in there and take the best 50 shirts," said Ms Moon. "Have that 'you never know what you're going to find' frame of mind, and we'll have a team of people who will refresh tables for each clothes swap."
