The council said it was working through the COVID safe plan for pools released by NSW Health on Thursday, and had "fast-tracked" the induction of seasonal pool lifeguards who had been "on standby".
More news is expected mid-next week but local case numbers may complicate matters.
"Right now, we're seeing increasing case numbers for our Local Government Area," Wollongong City Council General Manager Greg Doyle said.
"This is extremely concerning and while we have the public health order to follow, it's important we have the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers and community front of mind in our decision making.''
Updates will be posted on the council's website and Facebook page.
